ESL Tutor For You

You can master English, and I can help you. I tutor adult, immigrant students who live in the San Francisco Peninsula/South Bay region. There are no fees or other expenses.  Mike

How does this tutoring program work?

Your  tutoring program depends on you. First, you tell me why you are learning English and how you learn best. Then you and I develop a program around you, and your goals and what learning approach works best for you. Students have different English language skills, so lessons are not the same for all students.

What is a tutoring session like?

We start each meeting with some friendly conversation to help you build your vocabulary and your ease of speaking. Then we review English language basics like verbs or sentences. For the second part of our meetings, we use online platforms that are free to you. These platforms offer us videos and simple quizzes. Some of the lessons are conversations; some are online exercises; some are writing sentences, and some are exercises that I will prepare for you.

When, where and how long?

We meet for a minimum of 1 hour per week at a time that is convenient for you.  We meet online, or at a library, a school, a quiet cafe, or some other place that is not noisy. All meetings are online or at public places. We often need a reliable Wi-Fi connection. I work with only adult immigrants who live in San Mateo County or Santa Clara County. I want to see each person grow as much as possible. English language should not be a barrier to your growth.

Are you already taking a class?

If you are taking a class at a local adult school or college, I will help you with your lessons and with your homework. Teachers sometimes assign too much work for someone who is learning English. I will help you get through this.

Other conversation opportunities

I usually lead group conversation sessions with four or five people twice a week. Most often these sessions are at schools. In some cases, you may be able to participate in these sessions, but in some cases the schools do not permit guests.

What language do we use for these sessions?

Some of my students are Asian, but most of my students are from Central or South America. I speak a few words in other languages, but we conduct all tutoring sessions in English.

What else do students need?

If we are working online, you will need a PC or a Mac, a reliable Wi-Fi signal, and a place that lets you focus on learning. You have a busy life, so sometimes you will need to cancel or reschedule a session. Usually these changes are not a problem for me.

What training and experience does Mike have?

I have tutored at these schools: Palo Alto Adult School, Sequoia Adult School, Canada College, Upward Scholars, and Tutoria. I have tutored 24 students over the last 4 years, but I have never held a job as a paid teacher. I am not fluent in Spanish, but I am patient and I am a good listener.

Why is this tutoring free?

There are no fees of any kind. I am a retired electronics entrepreneur, so I do not need any payment for this work. My payment is seeing you work hard to improve your English. Your progress is my reward!

How can I get started with tutoring?

If you want to learn more about working with me, send an email to me at xxx. I will reply to your email with a few questions. Once I have your answers, I will set up a time for us to talk. At that time you can tell me about your goals, and you can ask me any questions about tutoring.

Hope to talk with you soon. Mike
